TDM Results 2026: When and How They’re Released
Published Oct 9, 2026 · Updated Oct 10, 2026
TDM results in 2026 are released 5 weeks after your exam date, as a pass or fail result in your physiciansapply.ca account. Here is how they are released, what they mean and what happens after a fail, from the MCC’s own pages.
When are TDM results released?
Results are available 5 weeks after the exam date. Your results letter is uploaded to your physiciansapply.ca account, and you get an email and an account message telling you it is there. The MCC never gives TDM results over the phone or by email.
Pass or fail only
The TDM currently reports only a pass or fail result. Scores aren’t reported to candidates or to PRA programs. You pass if your total score is equal to or higher than the pass score, however other candidates do: the exam is criterion-referenced, so you are compared with a standard, not with other people. The Exam Oversight Committee, made up of physicians and medical educators from across Canada, approves the results. More on this in how the TDM is scored.
The 2026 pass score
In February 2026 the MCC ran a standard-setting exercise with a panel of 20 family medicine physicians. The new pass score that came out of it applies to the January 2026 session and every session after it.
The exam is scored automatically against an answer key, and your total score is your performance across all questions. Scores are equated, which links each new exam form to a reference scale set in February 2026. Scoring runs as two independent, parallel processes, and their results must match before release.
How long a result counts
Only your most recent result is valid, whatever your earlier results were. A result is valid across the PRA programs that require the TDM, whichever province you took it in. From September 2026 the MCC no longer sets a validity period for a pass; PRA programs may set their own recency requirements.
What happens after a fail?
After a fail you can’t apply for the very next session. The MCC’s examples: fail in January 2026 and you can’t sit in June 2026, so your next session is September 2026; fail in June 2026 and your next session is January 2027.
You can take the TDM a maximum of 4 times, and attempts before September 2026 count. After three consecutive fails you must wait 1 year from your result before applying for your fourth and final attempt. The details are in TDM attempt limits and the 2026 changes.
If something went wrong on exam day, report it to the MCC through physiciansapply.ca within 7 days. Candidates who don’t report an incident within 7 days can’t request a reconsideration after results are released.

Study takeaway: a fail rules you out of the next session, so plan your preparation around the session after it, and report any exam-day problem within 7 days so a reconsideration stays possible.
