Published Oct 9, 2026 · Updated Oct 10, 2026
CFPC exam dates are published well ahead: the Certification Examination in Family Medicine runs twice a year, in spring and fall. Here are the CCFP SAMP and SOO dates, application windows, fees and results timing for 2026 and 2027, from the CFPC’s own pages.
When are the CFPC exams in 2026 and 2027?
Fall 2026: SAMPs October 13–14, 2026; SOOs October 17–18, 2026. Fee $4,478 CAD (residency eligible) or $5,972 CAD (practice eligible).
Spring 2027: SAMPs April 5–7, 2027; SOOs April 17–18 and April 24–25, 2027. Fee $4,568 CAD (residency eligible) or $6,091 CAD (practice eligible).
Fall 2027: SAMPs October 12–13, 2027; SOOs October 16–17, 2027. Fee $4,568 CAD (residency eligible) or $6,091 CAD (practice eligible).
The CFPC notes that dates are subject to change, and that fees are approved by its Board of Directors one year in advance of the spring exam. 2028 dates aren’t listed yet. A tuition tax credit is available to each candidate who attempts the exam.
Application windows
Each sitting has two windows. First-time practice-eligible applicants apply first; first-time residency-eligible applicants and all repeat applicants apply in the second window.
Fall 2026: practice-eligible first-time applicants January 1 to April 1, 2026; everyone else May 1 to June 30, 2026.
Spring 2027: practice-eligible first-time applicants July 1 to October 1, 2026; everyone else December 1, 2026 to February 1, 2027.
Fall 2027: practice-eligible first-time applicants January 1 to April 1, 2027; everyone else May 1 to June 30, 2027.
Repeat candidates who are still eligible must register by February 1 for the spring exam or June 30 for the fall exam. First-time practice-eligible candidates must also complete the CLASS program, which costs an additional fee, before taking the exam.
When do results arrive?
The CFPC emails you about eight weeks after the exam to say your results are ready in the CFPC portal. For the Fall 2026 exam, that points to around mid-December 2026. Your official result letter is uploaded 5 to 10 business days after that email, and results stay in the portal for three months. They are never released by telephone, fax or email.
Results are pass or fail, with a result for the written SAMPs, the oral SOOs and overall; you must pass both components. If you are unsuccessful, a Candidate Feedback Report follows about six to eight weeks after results are released. The pass score for each component is set relative to a reference group of first-time graduates of Canadian family medicine residency programs.
Seat booking with Prometric and the cancellation fees are covered in CCFP SAMP exam day and scheduling. To start practising, try CCFP SAMP sample questions or the TopQbank CCFP SAMP question bank, reviewed by licensed doctors. To plan your revision, follow the 10-week SAMP prep plan.
Study takeaway: put your application window in your calendar first: it closes months before the exam, and repeat candidates have a fixed February 1 or June 30 deadline. Then plan backwards from the SAMP date.
