AMC CAT MCQ Pass Rate: Why Roughly Half of Candidates Don't Pass

This is one of the more sobering pass rates on this list. In the 2023–2024 reporting period, the AMC CAT MCQ pass rate was 51% (up 4 points from 2022–23's 47%) — meaning, over a multi-year trend, roughly half of all candidates do not pass on a given attempt. The passing score is 250 on the AMC's 0–500 scale, and there's no negative marking. From 2026 the AMC has slightly raised the pass standard, but results are still reported on the 0–500 scale with the pass mark described as 250, and the AMC says you won't need to answer a greater percentage of questions correctly.

Study takeaway: given how close to 50/50 this exam runs, full-syllabus timed practice (150 questions across a 3.5-hour session, spanning disease process, examination and diagnosis, investigation, therapy, and management) matters more here than almost any exam on this list — there's little margin for weak coverage in any single area.
